Satisfaction of Practice Education, Performance Self-confidence and Performance Assessment Scores of Basic Core Skills for Nursing Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among the satisfaction of practice education, performance self-confidence and performance assessment scores of basic core skills for nursing students. The participants of this study were 98 nursing students who were expected to graduate. The data were collected July 23 to August 10, 2012 using checklist for performance assessment scores and self-reported questionnaires, including satisfaction of practice education and performance self-confidence of basic core skills for nursing students. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficient. The means of satisfaction of practice education and performance self-confidence, and performance assessment scores of basic core skills for nursing students were 4.56¡¾0.51, 4.28¡¾0.57, and 91.65¡¾3.60 respectively. There were no significant differences in satisfaction of practice education and performance self-confidence, performance assessment scores of basic core skills for nursing students by general characteristics such as gender, age, leave of absence, interpersonal relationship, personality, and satisfaction about major or clinical practicum. Satisfaction of practice education had significantly positive correlations with performance self-confidence (r=0.592, p<0.001) and performance assessment scores (r=0.301, p=0.003) of basic core skills for nursing students. In addition, performance self-confidence had significantly positive correlation with performance assessment scores of basic core skills for nursing students (r=0.279, p=0.005). To improve performance skills of basic core skills for nursing students, nursing educators should consider enhancing satisfaction of practice education and performance self-confidence of basic core skills for nursing students.
